Allen Hall

The state of Oregon's only accredited journalism program resides in Allen Hall, named for Eric W. Allen, first dean of the school. The oldest portion of Allen was built in 1922 and attached to McClure Hall, the chemistry building, which was razed in 1953. In 1954 the new structure -- thanks to a $600,000 appropriation from the Oregon legislature -- was finished, attached to the 1922 building (now the Duniway Resource Center) and renamed Allen Hall. The building also housed Printing Services and the University Press. Through the success of the Oregon Campaign in the mid-1990s, Allen Hall underwent a major renovation that included new administrative offices, student services and electronic media centers, an enhanced entrance, and a plaza. During that time, Printing Services was moved to its current location in the old Register-Guard building in downtown Eugene.
