Autzen Stadium

Described in 2000 as a "glorified divot with seats" by Sports Illustrated magazine, Autzen Stadium was built in 1967 for just $2.5 million and named in honor of the Autzen Foundation -- headed by Portland lumberman, philanthropist, and UO alumnus Thomas Autzen '41 -- which gave $250,000 to the project. The Casanova Center, which houses the UO's athletic department, was built in 1991. The Ed Moshofsky Sports Center, an indoor practice facility, was added in 1998. Autzen Stadium is currently in the midst of an $80-million renovation that will increase seating capacity by 12,000 (to a total of 55,000) and add new luxury boxes. Completion is slated for 2003.
