Built in 1901 as the Engineering Building -- with additions and upgrades in 1915, 1924, 1956, 1970, and 1991 -- Lawrence Hall was home to the university's first physical plant, which has since relocated. Today the School of Architecture and Allied Arts has called Lawrence Hall home for almost ninety years. It is named in honor of Ellis F. Lawrence, first dean of the school and architect of seventeen campus buildings. The universitys School of Architecture and Allied Arts is the principal center in Oregon for the study of architecture, art, planning, and design. Nearly 1,500 UO students major in one of the school's programs, which include architecture, historic preservation, art history, and planning, public policy, and management. |
