The University of Oregon Museum of Art was built in 1930. Designed by Ellis Lawrence, the museum was built to house the Murray Warner Collection of Oriental Art -- more than 3,000 works of art given to the state of Oregon by Gertrude Bass Warner. With its elegant exterior tapestry brickwork, decorative moldings and iron grillwork, artificial skylights, and Campbell Memorial Courtyard, the museum is one of the most distinctive buildings in Oregon. Listed on the National Register for Historic Places, it is the premier visual arts resource for all of Lane County. The building is currently in the midst of a $12 million capital campaign and is closed to the public. It is scheduled to reopen in 2003. |
