Straub Hall

John Straub was a professor of Greek, dean of the college of arts and sciences, and dean of men during his tenure at the University of Oregon, which began in 1878. Straub Hall -- originally the John Straub Memorial Building -- was built in 1928 to alleviate crowding in Friendly Hall, a men's dormitory. Construction on the facility began in March and it opened for use in September. Crews worked double shifts, even in darkness, to finish the building in record time. Today Straub is home to the psychology and linguistics departments, as well as the child research laboratory. The Office of Public Safety is adjacent to Straub Hall in Earl Hall, built in 1954 as an addition to Straub.
